- Extensive pre-screening including due diligence follow as necessary for every student to ensure ALE meets your child’s needs
- Physical exam takes place before a student goes into the field
- Groups hike at a pace that is sustainable for the slowest member of the group
- 24-hour access to medical personnel plus local Hospital with ER nearby
- Air evacuation in emergencies is available
- Field instructors carry a full capability medical kit
- Senior Field instructors are Wilderness First Responder certified
- All direct care personnel are First Aid and CPR certified
- Medication management
- Regular Nurse or EMT medical checks
- Nutritionist designed diet
- Hydration carefully monitored
- Students drink from four to six quarts of water daily
- Electrolyte supplementation provided based on season and students’ needs
- Instructors conduct twice daily foot checks and follow up on medical concerns
- Groups cease hiking and take shelter at temperatures above 90˚F and below 10˚F
- Students are equipped with functional, effective, and seasonally appropriate gear and clothing
- Emergency safety protocols are in place and trained for in case of lightning, flood, and fire
- Stringent clinical safety protocols for any emotional escalations and self harm ideation
- Comprehensive and redundant communication systems
- Scheduled twice daily radio check-ins with other communication as necessary
- Research-based therapeutic practices
